The foundation portfolio main task involves producing a front page, a contents page and a 2 page mock up of a music magazine. I am going to use the acronym LIIAR to talk about the key concepts of a music magazine.
Language- The language i am going to use will be simple, fun and entertaining and appealing to those who are interested in the music industry.
Ideology - The purpose of my music magazine will be to inform and entertain my target audience. I will do this by having articles about new and exciting music events and new albums and recently released songs. It will promote the music genre which i have decided to base my music magazine on.
Institution- A music magazine publisher.
Audience- My audience will target those who are interested in music, and who are interested in the genre which i will choose.
Representation- This all depends on the music genre the magazine has chosen to represent. For example Kerrang caters for a fan of the heavy metal/rock genre, where as Mixmag caters for a fan of a music genre of the complete opposite, this being clubbing music and represents today's 'clubber'. Whereas Kerang would chose to represent a band member on the front cover, Mixmag would rather opt for an attractive, young female.
NME has chosen to represent the news side of music and after ten years NME has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading sources for music news.
As my aim is to create a new and upcoming magazine i would probably choose to represent either a Rap/rnb music genre as these I am most interested in.

Evaluation of my preliminary draft
In your blog evaluation the following questions must be
answered about your final piece of work:
• In what ways does your Media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
• How does your Media product represent
particular social groups
My magazine represents a sport group, by attracting the reader to a picture of the england rugby team, also by sporting headlines.
• What kind of Media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
• Who would be the audience for your Media
product?
The audience for my magazine is people interested in sport, people who would like to be interested in sport or people who are trying to learn about sport.
• How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience by have a big title, which is called New Generation, this relates to young people as we are the next generation of people, also i used bold titles and used strong sub headings.
• What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
• Looking back at the preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the progression
from it to the full product?
I feel that i have learned how to use photo shop, useing title to attract my reader, and the use of photos which is related to my magazine.

Three magazines aimed at people aged 16-19
I am going to compare three magazines. The magazines which im going to compare are "Mens fitness, Rugby World and Empire". Mens fitness is about fitness, hence the name. Rugby world is speaking about the events in Rugby and Empire is a movie magazine.
Firstly mens fitness, is a magazine aimed at people who are after achieving their dream bodies. Boys aged 16-19 enjoy reading this magaizine as they are trying to get great bodies. The language of the magazine is straight to the point, however the front cover isn't simple it has many sub stories on it. There is a man covering the middle of the magazine with his top off showing that he is dominating other than the sub stories. The image though is taken whilst he is posing, it isnt a natural photo, he looks like it is done in a studio of some sort. This will pull the reader in as there is alot for them to read about and each bit is different. The sub story at the bottom of the magazine, tells of what their will be in the magazine as it is in large font and draws attention to it, this is the the leading story alongside the man with his top off. Also it is the 100th issue of the magazine, so they have chosen a man with the best body, who has previosuly been on a edition.
Rugby world magazine is a well know magazine in the rugby scene and has been around for a long time. It always features the hottest thing around. In this issue their is danny cipriani on the cover. Around him their is two other sub stories, then the main story about danny cipriani. Danny has had his photo taken whilst in an adidas hoody. He is also posing at the camera. The sub stories around him are about englands nine lives, suggesting that they are on their 9 life. The other story is about bath rugby club, so all the stories are related to british rugby. The main heading has a picture of danny in action playing for England, this isnt a pose picture it has been taken whilst he was playing and the picture has him with the ball in his hands.
The third magazine is Empire, this a magazine aimed at people who are interested in the feature film world. The front cover is off Heath Ledger playing the Batman, in the recent film Batman, The Dark Knight. The joker covers the whole screen and it is a close up of his face. The title says empire 500 greatest movies of all time. This suggets that the Batman is really high in the greatest movies of all time. The front cover is all about the Joker, this is maybe because he played a major role in Batman and that is why the movie is ranked so high. The title has 500 different to the rest of the title, so that it stands out also Empire is in bigger writing than the rest, as it is the name of the magazine.

Textual analysis of secondary teachers magazine
The pictures title is the Future face of education. The picture is of a group of students who have been drawn and are fictional. The person who is at the front of the picture is looking up suggesting that he is confident. However there is a girl who is looking away to the right, unlike the rest of the group, who is looking at the camera. The suggests that they are the future, but that girl isn't bothered about education. Also Future is in a different colour and relates to the picture. The front cover is aimed at students and young teachers who are thinking about going into education, also the top headline says teachers, so this suggests that it aimed at teachers. The fictional photgraph also isnt aimed at a particular race, it has many races in the photo, suggesting that the future has all races in it, not just one, that were all equal.
