evaluation
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and vonventions of ral media products?
After going through a range of different research techniques I created my own music magazine which is called Planet Rap.
I looked at many rap magazine on the internet and studied a range of different double page spreads to get a general feel of how the articles were written and how the overall page looked. I then put these ideas together to form my own layout. My double page spread. I have 2 photos on my double page spread one where the artist is looking at the camera and on the other page where the artist is looking at the photo of his looking directly at the camera. This is an idea i used from one of the magazines i looked at. I have also noticed from Rap artists how they pose for a photo shoot, they are arrogant and they like to pose, i adopted this idea for my character"Jay O", i wanted him to be arrogant in his photos and posey so that it ressembled a real Rap artist.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My magazine highlights the Rap genre similar to the ideology of the rap magazines iv looked at. Specifically in my article it highlights how people can come from a bad background and achieve big things, and how its happens alot in the Rap Industry these ideas can be represented through the music industry. I have chosen to take a photo with him stood against a graffiti wall with the photo been taken whilst looking up at him, this suggests that he is from a bad background or a disruptive background and that he has achieved alot as we are having to look up at him, this means that he is better than his old background and know that you should look up at him, he is arrogant because he has achieved alot. Also having him pointing up the sky suggests that rap music isnt the only thing for him, the sky is the limit, this is called social mobility, this is moving from his social setting.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience I originally chose was teenagers both male and female who are interested in rap music. Also peole who are interested in knowing that if you are from a bad background and have a child at a young age you can achieve things you dont need to give up. I kept to young teenagers as I felt my magazine could contain taboo language. I feel now however that people older than teenagers could be interested in my magazine.
I used a simple magazine name - 'Planet Rap' which stands out and gives a general idea that the magazine is a music magazine which has rap music from around the world. I used the name as well because the artists dont want to be just known for their contribution to Rap Music, the want the planet to know who they are, so Rap music isnt the only path for them. I used specific styles, features, text size, fonts, design and graphics to attract my audience, my front page has bright colours and a big photo of the feature artist in the magazine. My contents page is simple with a lightened photo of my main artist in the middle pointing to the sky. My double page spread uses the colours black and red often symbolised with Rap music to get your attention. Rap music is often symbolised with death and trouble, that is why black and red are good colours to use in the article.
What have you learnt about technologies from the procre of constructing this product?
I certainly feel I have made process since my first task, picking up skills and ideas on certain programmes. My preliminary task is very simple, I didn't use photoshop of other complex programs to make it, I didn't do as much research as I recently did for my final task and I only did one draft.
I feel I have learnt to produce initial drafts so that i can see how my magazine would have improved, do a lot of research and try out a range of different ideas.
The programmes I can now use confidentally are Publisher, Paint and Photoshop. I have learnt how to blend graphics together, how to use different font effects and many other skills.

Front page draft
Magazine contents page
The contents page which i have choose to look at features 50cent as the main article in the magazine. This is because he is the only one to have a picture of him featured in the contents page. 50cent is looking at the camera over his shoulder. The features in the magazine have the sub titles in bold black writting, with underneath it a litle description about what is happening in that article and who features in it. At the bottom of the page next to 50 cent is the page which he is featured in, the page number is the biggest on the contents page, suggesting that it is their most important article.
Magazine double paged spreads.
These three double page spreads are all from the genre of my chosen music magazine, Rap/Hip-Hop. I have decided to choose these double page spreads as i can analyse them and use what i think is good from them on my double page spread.
The first double page spread i have chosen is of an artist called "Factz" he is sat in an urban surrounding, pointing at the camera whilst sat on a bench. On the other side of the page is a shadow of "factz" sat down. This is because they have taken the photogrpah whilst the sun has made the shadowof him, also their is a shadow of trees at the top of the double paged spread. The photograph of the artist doesnt look like it has been altered, so this is suggesting he is like the real deal, he aint fake, he is one from his urban surroundings. The bench which the artist is sat on, has a quote from the interview on the other side of the page printed along the top of the bench next to the artist. The artist is sat casually on the edge of the bench, whilst the quote takes up the rest which is empty. The photograph of the artist has his arm missing on his left side, but the shadow on the other side makes it look like his other arm pointing out to something. I like the way this photograph has been taken, as it has used the surroundings around it to construct a unique photo.
The second double paged spread i am looking at is off " Ice Cube", raper turned actor, back to raper. The title of the article which features Ice Cube is called " express yourself" this was once a song from Ice Cube and the N.W.A, this is one of his most famous songs. The article is called this as they have Ice Cube "expressing" his views on hip hops hottest topics. One side of the double paged spread is of the article itself, with the answers from ice cube and the other page features ice cube posing to the camera. Ice Cube has his fist up ready to fight, with one fist heading towards the camera. The hand which is coming towards the camera is blurry unlike the rest of the photo which you can clearly see ice cube. The text which has been used for the interview is infront of a black background with white writing and red sub titles. The red is seen as violent, often which rapers are seen as, as they are in their own gangs, so it is symbolic.
The third double page spread i chose to look at is a picture of the artist grand master flash. Grandmaster flash is stood with his hands on his hips, with the lower part of his body blured slightly, and his head clearly visible. The other page has an article about grandmaster flash. The questions are in red and his answers in white, the red could suggest blood, violence as rapers are seen as gangsters. The name of the article is called "the original" this suggests he is a raper from the beggining and has helped rap music go furthur.
Genre of my music magazine, magazine identity
The genre of my music magazine which i have chosen to use is either Rap or Hip Hop, the reasons why I have chosen these is because i am interested in the music. Also it can appeal to both male and females as it is a genre which i know alot of people around my age listen to. I will be targeting 14- 23 year olds as between these ages you start to listen to alot of music. My magazine identity will be Called Planet Rap, as the magazine will feaure artists from both genres. Also it is is a name wich will get peoples attention as it says what the magazine will feature.

Music magazines which i have looked at
The music magazine which i have chosen to look is called Rap Up, on the front page of the magazube their is three women, they are all big selling artists. Also this magazine targets men as they are all atractive and are posing for the camera, it isnt a natural photo. On the magazine it also shows other big selling artists who are popular at the moment. It features the likes on nelly and flo rida and many others. The main page though mainly features on the 3 young girls. This suggests that their will be a big section on them. Also the three girls are infront of a screen posing for the camera. Rap up is a magazine who are targeting those who are interested in rap music also rnb as the singers on the page sing rnb, those clases are similiar as often they have each other featuring in there songs. So this magazine is those interested in rap and rnb and those who are trying to get into it.
Another magazine which i have chose to look at is called Kerrang, this magazine features Fall Out Boy on the cover, they go over the Kerrang name, this is because Kerrang is a well known music magazine and they dont need to show their full name. The photo which is situated on the front cover has 2 out of the 4 band memebers on it. This is because those 2 are the most well known. The group memebers are posing at the camera so it isn't a realistic shot. Kerrang also features a free poster in their of supposidly the sexiest men in rock. I have chosen to look at this magazine as it is totally different to what i am interested in and shows another type of genre for a music magazine which others are interested in.
Another magazine which i have looked at is Hip hop. It features Lil Wayne on the front cover. His name is only second to the main title with boldness. Under neath his name is a sub title with 2008s biggest superstars, along with pictures of those who they believe to be the biggest stars. This covers Lil Wayne slightly, along with what else is featured in the magazine. The title Hip-Hop is over the top of Lil wayne.
